RESEARCH AFFILIATES PROGRAMME

A comprehensive programme which aims to fully equip tax professionals with the necessary skills for academic writing and research and build up the pipeline for tax academic research in Singapore.

  • Accepting around 2-6 affiliates a year
  • Exclusive programme built on the model of the Directed Research Programme in SMU
  • Training and consultation sessions with SMU faculty and visiting professors 

Contact Sessions:

  • 2 x 3h writing workshop
  • 3 x 1h consultations over a few months
  • 1 research seminar  
Certification and Resources:

  • Appointment as “Research Affiliate”
  • Access to comprehensive support and resources for undertaking research

Registration closes on 29 August 2025, and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview by Assistant Professor Vincent Ooi (Head of STARI) and Ms Eunice Toh (Associate Director of Tax Academy of Singapore).

Training affiliates on technical skills of academic writing and publication (First workshop will be held in October 2025)

  • Research Methods: Formulating Research Questions, Methodologies
  • Technical Skills: Literature Review, Citations, Sources
  • Publication Process: Selecting Journals, Peer Review
  • Sharing by Senior Research Affiliates: Sharing on their research journey and what they found useful in the research and writing process

Affiliates present their research to leading visiting academics and receive feedback.

Affiliates are guided in publishing their work in a variety of appropriate journals.
